Exam Schedules & Local Registration Information

The JLPT is generally held in July and December, but some overseas cities offer only one of the two sessions. Registration periods, procedures, and fees vary by country and test site, so always check the latest information from your local host institution.

Pass Requirements & Sectional Pass Marks

A high total score alone does not guarantee passing the JLPT. You must meet the sectional pass mark for every scoring section.

💡 Practical Test-Day Tips

  • Bring an HB Pencil or Mechanical Pencil

Fill in the answer sheet with an HB pencil or mechanical pencil, and bring an eraser. Do not use an ink pen, and check your local test guide for detailed rules.

  • A Wristwatch That Meets Local Test Rules

Your test room may not have a clock. Rules for smartwatches, electronic devices, and permitted watch types may vary by location, so check your local test guide.

  • Break-Time Snacks

Because the test is very long (especially N1 and N2), bringing chocolate or an energy bar for the break will greatly help maintain your focus.
